The Martoglio Trophy

Organized by the Società Canottieri Esperia Torino in collaboration with the Martoglio Foundation

The Martoglio Trophy is a sporting initiative dedicated to athletes in the Special Olympics category (intellectual-relational disabilities) and currently represents one of Canottieri Esperia Torino's most significant projects in the field of inclusion.
The event takes place within the prestigious D'Inverno sul Po regatta, one of the most important rowing events in Italy.

The birth of the Martoglio Trophy

The Trophy was organized for the first time in 2023, on the occasion of the 40th edition of the D'Inverno sul Po regatta.
Participation was immediately extraordinary, with over a hundred athletes from various Italian clubs participating in both on-water races (double canoe, 4+ GIG) and indoor individual and group relay events.

A landmark annual event

In just a few years, the Martoglio Trophy has become a landmark annual event for Italian clubs participating in Special Olympics rowing programs.
We are now in our 4th edition, and in the last two years the event has consistently exceeded 100 participants, confirming itself as one of the most popular inclusive events in the national rowing scene.
As usual, the first day of competition concludes with a convivial moment in the Club's large hall, where all participating athletes receive medals and dedicated awards, a symbol of the collaboration between Canottieri Esperia Torino and the Martoglio Foundation.
The Trophy also integrates with the Saturday day of the D'Inverno sul Po, with regattas dedicated to the FISDIR and pararowing categories.

Purpose of the Martoglio Trophy

The project is based on several key objectives:

  • Promote inclusion through rowing, offering Special Olympics athletes a calm, welcoming, and structured competitive environment.
  • Encourage socialization and networking between clubs from across the country.
  • Spread an inclusive sports culture, in line with the principles of Special Olympics, FISDIR
    and pararowing.
  • Strengthen the sense of community through the involvement of coaches, volunteers, families, and technical and operational staff.
  • Enhance the commitment and personal growth of athletes, placing the joy of sport and participating together at the center.

The Martoglio Trophy thus continues its growth, bringing a message of inclusion, respect, and shared participation to the Po River, and demonstrating each year how sport can represent An extraordinary opportunity open to all.

The Martoglio Foundation

The Mario and Ofelia Martoglio Foundation bases its work on the values of solidarity and a Christian vision of the person.

It operates independently of political orientation, rejects any form of discrimination based on gender, origin, nationality, or religion, and is a non-profit organization, pursuing exclusively socially beneficial goals.
